Caitlin Atkinson, MSc., Ph.D. Candidate

Clinical Therapist

Caitlin Atkinson is currently completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University. As a clinical therapist, Caitlin takes a collaborative, non-judgmental, compassionate stance to create a warm, welcoming environment for children, adolescents, and their parents. Using evidence-based practices, Caitlin tailors her assessment and treatment of children and adolescents based on their needs using a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Emotion Focused Skills Training (EFST). She provides treatment for clinical needs such as anxiety, depressive symptoms, obsessive compulsive disorder, emotion dysregulation, executive dysfunction, perfectionism, and relational difficulties. Additionally, Caitlin provides parent coaching and consultation to assist caregivers in supporting their child’s overall well-being. Caitlin has substantial experience working with neurodivergent children and adolescents as well as parents of neurodivergent children. She provides neurodivergent-affirming care and works with clients’ strengths and interests.

In addition, Caitlin conducts comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children and youth with academic challenges such as learning difficulties, behavioural concerns, and inattention. She is also experienced in conducting assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities. As part of the assessment process, Caitlin will consult with caregivers, teachers, and others in the child or adolescent’s life that can provide relevant information to better understand them as a whole and to acknowledge the strengths of the child. Caitlin uses assessment results to assist in explaining previous learning, behavioural, or emotional difficulties as well as provide recommendations on how to further support clients in all areas of life.

Caitlin has completed practicum placements at numerous community mental health agencies, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, the Developmental Disabilities Consulting Program, and various private practices. Most recently, she completed her pre-doctoral residency at the Children and Adolescent Psychology Centre in Aurora, Ontario.
